Mauritian sega dancer bookings in the UK usually start from £400, with the price shaped by the number of dancers, set length and whether live sega musicians with ravanne drums join them. Exact pricing depends on availability, your exact requirements, time on site and location, and each booking is quoted individually.
Key takeaways
- Team size and live musicians have the biggest effect on the price.
- Sega is a participation dance, so most shows end with guests joining in.
- Book early, as specialist sega teams are fewer than other dance acts.
What is sega and why book it?
Sega is the traditional folk music and dance of Mauritius, with roots in the island's African and Malagasy heritage. It is danced to the ravanne, a large frame drum, along with the maravanne shaker and the triangle. Dancers wear long, colourful flowing skirts and move with swaying hips and small shuffling steps, while the rhythm builds faster and faster.
It is joyful, easy to join and instantly transports guests to a beach in Mauritius. That is why it is so popular at Mauritian weddings, tropical themed parties and summer events.
What affects the price of Mauritian dancers?
The number of dancers is the first factor. A pair of dancers suits a family party or restaurant. A larger group gives a fuller show at a wedding or festival. The second factor is music: dancing to recorded sega is simpler, while a live band with ravanne players gives the authentic island sound.
Specialist sega teams are less common than many other dance acts in the UK, so travel distance can play a bigger part in the quote, especially outside London and the South East.

What does a typical sega booking include?
In our experience, most bookings include one or two sets of around 15 to 20 minutes, with the dancers' own costumes and music. The show usually starts with a demonstration, then the dancers bring guests onto the floor to learn the basic steps.
The participation part is the heart of sega. It is not meant to be watched from a chair, and the best teams have the whole room swaying by the end.
Tip from our team: Ask the team to explain a little about sega before they start. A short introduction helps guests who are new to it feel part of the moment.
Is it worth adding live sega musicians?
For a Mauritian wedding or a big celebration, yes. Live ravanne drums have a warmth and drive that recorded tracks cannot match, and the musicians can speed up and slow down with the dancers and the crowd.
It does add to the cost and needs a little more space. For a smaller party or a restaurant, recorded music works well and keeps things simple.
How can you get the best value?
Place the sega show when the room is ready to dance: after dinner, before the DJ opens the floor, or as a welcome at a summer garden party. Because sega brings guests up, it is one of the best icebreakers available.
Pair it with a steel band during drinks and tropical decor for a full island theme. If you book several services through us, we coordinate timings so the evening flows.

When is sega not the right choice?
If you want a high-impact stage show with lifts and tricks, bhangra or street dancers may suit better. Sega is gentle and inviting rather than acrobatic. It also works best when guests are willing to join in, so a very formal, seated evening may not suit.
We will always give you honest advice on what fits your crowd.
