How to Choose a Mobile DJ Truck for Your Baraat: A Checklist

PCthe Party Central events team 3 min read

The right mobile DJ truck is one that physically fits your venue, meets its noise rules and comes with a DJ who knows how a baraat or activation should build. Start with access and timings, then look at sound, lighting and the DJ. This checklist covers what we check on every booking.

Key takeaways

  • Check gate width, driveway length and parking before anything else.
  • Ask who the DJ is, not just what the truck looks like.
  • Agree the route, start time and finish point in writing.

Will the truck fit your venue?

This is the question that catches people out most. Trucks vary in length, height and weight, and some venues have tight gates, low trees, soft grass or weight limits on driveways. A beautiful truck is no use if it has to stop at the car park entrance.

Ask your venue coordinator where vehicles can go, where the truck can park and how far the baraat will travel. Then share this with the supplier so they can confirm the truck will work.

  • Gate and entrance width
  • Overhead clearance, such as trees, arches or canopies
  • Ground surface, especially grass after rain
  • Where the truck parks after the procession

Does the venue allow amplified music outside?

Many venues, especially hotels in residential areas of London and Birmingham, have outdoor noise limits or set windows when amplified music is allowed. Some ban it entirely before a certain time on Sundays.

Check the rules before you book. If the venue only allows a short window, plan the baraat to fit it and let the truck and any dhol players know in advance.

Tip from our team: Get the noise policy from the venue in writing. Verbal assurances from a sales team do not always match what the duty manager says on the day.

Who is the DJ and what will they play?

The truck is the showpiece, but the DJ makes the moment. For a baraat you want someone who knows bhangra and Punjabi hits, reads the family and keeps the energy up for the whole walk. For a brand event you want someone who can work with your host and hit timed cues.

Ask whether the DJ has played baraats before and if you can share a must-play list. A quick call before the day makes a big difference.

What questions should you ask before booking?

Use these questions to compare options. A good supplier will answer them clearly and quickly.

  • What are the truck's dimensions and does it need a flat surface?
  • How long before the start time will it arrive, and where does it wait?
  • Is the driver separate from the DJ?
  • Do you hold public liability insurance?
  • What happens if it rains heavily?
  • What is included and what counts as an extra?

What red flags should you look out for?

Be cautious of anyone who cannot give you the truck's size, will not confirm insurance, or promises to play anywhere without asking about your venue. Vague answers about timings usually mean the truck is double-booked or the plan has not been thought through.

Also watch for photos that only show the truck parked in a studio setting. You want to see it working at a real baraat or event, with people around it.

How far ahead should you book a mobile DJ truck?

There are far fewer mobile DJ trucks than regular DJs in the UK, so peak Saturdays from late spring to early autumn go quickly. Once your venue and date are confirmed, it is worth enquiring straight away.

Brand activations need extra lead time for wraps, branding and any permissions for public spaces. Allow time for route planning if you are moving through a city centre such as Manchester or Leicester.

Frequently asked questions

Can a mobile DJ truck drive on grass?

It depends on the truck and the ground conditions. Dry, firm grass is often fine, but after rain a heavy vehicle can sink or damage the lawn. Many venues will insist the truck stays on hardstanding, so check first.

How long does a baraat with a DJ truck usually last?

Most baraats run for a set window agreed with the venue and the family, often timed around the milni. The truck can arrive early to set up and play guests in. Agree start and finish times in advance so the ceremony stays on schedule.

Can the truck play with live dhol at the same time?

Yes, and it is one of the most popular combinations. The DJ plays tracks and the dhol players drum along, which keeps the energy high. Make sure both are booked with the same timings so they arrive together.

What if the venue does not allow vehicles near the entrance?

The truck can sometimes play from a fixed position at the start of the route while the baraat moves on foot. Otherwise, dhol players or a band baja may suit the venue better. We will suggest the best option once we know the layout.

Not sure a truck will fit your venue?

Send us the venue name and we will check access and suggest the best set-up for your baraat.
