Profile
About Apna Sangeet
Apna Sangeet formed in Birmingham in 1984 and quickly became one of the leading bands of the UK bhangra boom, named alongside Alaap and Heera as pioneers of the scene. By the early 1990s they had earned platinum disc status, and by 1994 they had released nine albums and sold over two million records.
What sets Apna Sangeet apart is how true they stayed to traditional bhangra. While many of their peers leaned into Western sounds, they kept the dhol at the centre of everything, backed by strong Punjabi vocals and classic folk structures. Songs like "Apna Sangeet Vaje Apna Sangeet" and "Mera Yaar Vajaye Dhol" are still dance floor staples at Punjabi weddings across the country.
The band reunited in 2009 and played the 2014 Vaisakhi celebrations in Trafalgar Square. For a wedding or anniversary with older relatives in the room, they bring the songs everyone grew up with and a live energy that gets every generation dancing.

Booking is for the future 01/08/26, but feel very confident and organised sorting this out before time! Will come back and leave a review after the event, but Sanj has been very active in helping with the booking, thank you
