Yes. Professional dhol players have microphones in their dhols, so that if you need it in a bigger venue the dhol can be plugged into the sound system for a fuller sound.
Key takeaways
- Professional dhols have microphones fitted.
- In big venues the dhol can be plugged into the sound system.
- Tell your venue and DJ so the sound is planned beforehand.
Why do dhol players use microphones?
A dhol is loud, but a large hall can swallow it. A microphone lets the sound team add body to the dhol so every guest hears it clearly.
When is the dhol plugged into the sound system?
It is used if required, usually in bigger venues. In smaller rooms the dhol is often played acoustically. Tell us your venue and guest numbers and we advise.
Want a quote for dhol players?
Free, no obligation. Tell us your date and venue.
What should you tell your venue and DJ?
Ask the venue whether there is a sound limiter and who runs the sound system. Tell your DJ the dhol may be plugged in so the connection and the volume are agreed beforehand.
Does a microphone solve venue noise limits?
Not on its own. A microphone helps the sound in a big room, but venues with noise limits can still restrict how long dhol plays or how many players you can have. Check those rules too.
