What is live event painting?
A live event painter sets up an easel at your event and paints the scene as it unfolds: the first dance, the room at its best, the speeches or a key moment at a launch. Guests can watch the painting take shape through the evening.
The finished piece is a one-off keepsake. Painters often block in the background before the event and add people and details live, then finish any final touches afterwards if needed. Live illustrators can also sketch guests or capture a conference in quick drawings.
Where it works best
Weddings
The first dance or ceremony on canvas.
Gala dinners
A painting of the room for the host.
Launches
Your product or venue captured live.
Charity auctions
A painting created on the night, ready to auction.
Conferences
Live illustration of the key ideas.
Milestone birthdays
A family keepsake of the celebration.
Tips from our team
- 1
Agree the scene in advance
Decide which moment you want captured, so the painter can plan the composition.
- 2
Place the easel well
The painter needs a clear view of the scene, good light and a protected spot away from busy walkways.
- 3
Share photos of the venue
Photos before the day help the painter prepare the background.
Frequently asked questions
How much do live event painters cost in Livingston?
Every booking is quoted individually, because the price of live event painters depends on availability, your date, location and travel, how long you need them and your exact requirements. Send us your date and venue and we will come back with clear options. Quotes are free with no obligation.
Is the painting finished on the night?
Often, yes. Some painters add final details afterwards and deliver the finished piece later. We confirm this with you.
What size is the painting?
Sizes vary by painter and the time booked. Tell us where you plan to hang it and we will suggest a size.
What does the painter need on site?
A small floor area with a clear view, good light and protection for the floor if needed.
Do venues around Livingston have sound limits for dhol or music?
Many hotels and country houses set a sound limit or an end time, and some ask for unplugged dhol indoors. Tell us your venue when you enquire and we will check its rules before we confirm anything.
Which postcodes around Livingston do you cover?
All of EH27, EH28, EH47, EH48, EH52, EH53, EH54 and EH55, including Bathgate, Armadale, West Lothian, Blackridge, Whitburn and Fauldhouse, plus the rest of Edinburgh and nearby Bridgend, Shotts, Dunfermline and Falkirk.
What time will the live event painters arrive, and how will they look?
They arrive smartly dressed and on time, usually 30 to 45 minutes before the performance, so they are ready the moment you need them. We share arrival times and a contact number with you before the day.
Are your live event painters vetted and insured?
Yes. Every partner is vetted by our team before they are listed. They hold public liability insurance and certificates, carry out risk assessments, and any electrical equipment they bring is PAT tested. Venues often ask for these documents and we can supply them.
How far in advance should I book live event painters?
For weddings and summer weekends, book as early as you can, ideally several months ahead, as the best dates go first. We can often help at short notice too, so it is always worth asking.
Do you cover Livingston and the rest of Edinburgh?
Yes. We book live event painters in Livingston, across Edinburgh and the whole of Scotland, for venues, homes and outdoor events.
