What are walkabout characters?

Walkabout characters are costumed performers who roam the event in character, chatting, posing for photos and reacting to guests. They make a theme feel real rather than just decorated.

Characters range from Gatsby partygoers and pirates to nutcrackers, jellyfish, octopus and other sea creatures, depending on your theme.

Where it works best

Themed parties
Characters who bring the theme to life.
Christmas parties
Nutcrackers and festive characters.
Under-the-sea
Pirates, jellyfish and sea creatures.
Festivals
All-day walkabout for a crowd.
Launches
Characters linked to your campaign.
Family events
Fun, friendly characters for all ages.

Tips from our team

1
Brief them on your guests
Tell us about your audience and the characters will adapt.
2
Mix with a showpiece
Characters work best alongside a headline act.
3
Plan photo spots
Characters near your backdrop make better photos.

Frequently asked questions

How much do walkabout characters cost in Rugby?

Every booking is quoted individually, because the price of walkabout characters depends on availability, your date, location and travel, how long you need them and your exact requirements. Send us your date and venue and we will come back with clear options. Quotes are free with no obligation.

Do walkabout characters talk to guests?

Yes, in character. They chat, pose and react, which is what makes them memorable.

Which venues near Rugby can hold a large Asian wedding?

On our list, Stoneleigh Park (up to 2000 guests), Sports Connexion (up to 1000 guests), IXL Events Centre (up to 750 guests) and Hinckley Island Hotel (up to 650 guests) can take 400 or more guests. Tell us your venue and numbers and we will plan walkabout characters around the space.

Do venues around Rugby have sound limits for dhol or music?

Many hotels and country houses set a sound limit or an end time, and some ask for unplugged dhol indoors. Tell us your venue when you enquire and we will check its rules before we confirm anything.

Which postcodes around Rugby do you cover?

All of CV21, CV22 and CV23, including Long Lawford, Kilsby, Brinklow, Clifton upon Dunsmore, Cawston and Dunchurch, plus the rest of Warwickshire and nearby Lutterworth, Daventry, Coventry and Southam.

What time will the walkabout characters arrive, and how will they look?

They arrive smartly dressed and on time, usually 30 to 45 minutes before the performance, so they are ready the moment you need them. We share arrival times and a contact number with you before the day.

Are your walkabout characters vetted and insured?

Yes. Every partner is vetted by our team before they are listed. They hold public liability insurance and certificates, carry out risk assessments, and any electrical equipment they bring is PAT tested. Venues often ask for these documents and we can supply them.

How far in advance should I book walkabout characters?

For weddings and summer weekends, book as early as you can, ideally several months ahead, as the best dates go first. We can often help at short notice too, so it is always worth asking.

Do you cover Rugby and the rest of Warwickshire?

Yes. We book walkabout characters in Rugby, across Warwickshire and the whole of West Midlands, for venues, homes and outdoor events.
