What is a wedding reception?

The reception is the party of the wedding: the couple's grand entrance, dinner, speeches and hours of dancing. At Asian weddings it is often the biggest event of all, with hundreds of guests in a banqueting suite or hotel ballroom.

We book the whole line-up: dhol for the entrance, a DJ and live drummer, Punjabi singers or a Bollywood band, bhangra or Bollywood dancers, a stage with AV and lighting, a photo booth and a mobile bar.

Where it works best

  • Step 1

Dhol for the couple's grand entrance

  • Step 2

A toastmaster or host to run the evening

  • Step 3

Live singers or a band after dinner

  • Step 4

    Dancers to open the floor

  • Step 5

A DJ with a live drummer for the party

Tips from our team

  1. 1

Time the entrance with the DJ

Agree the entrance track and cue with the DJ and dhol so the handover is seamless.

  2. 2

Book the singer for after dinner

A live set straight after the meal brings everyone back to the floor.

  3. 3

    Check the sightlines

Make sure the stage and dance floor can be seen from every table.

Frequently asked questions

Do venues around Torquay have sound limits for dhol or music?

Many hotels and country houses set a sound limit or an end time, and some ask for unplugged dhol indoors. Tell us your venue when you enquire and we will check its rules before we confirm anything.

Which postcodes around Torquay do you cover?

All of TQ1, TQ2, TQ3, TQ4, TQ5, TQ12 and TQ14, including Newton Abbot, Kingsteignton, Teignbridge, Kingskerswell, Ipplepen and Paignton, plus the rest of Devon and nearby Totnes, Bovey Tracey, Exmouth and Kingsbridge.

What entertainment should we book for an Asian wedding reception?

Most receptions have a dhol entrance, a DJ and one live highlight such as Punjabi singers, a live drummer or dancers. Bigger plans add a band, a stage show and a photo booth.

Can you supply everything for the reception?

Yes. One enquiry covers entertainment, staging, AV, decor and extras, with one point of contact.

Still have questions?

Tell us about your event and we'll come back with options.
