What is a baraat?
The baraat is the groom's wedding procession to the venue, led by his family and friends dancing to the dhol. In Punjabi, Indian and Pakistani weddings it is one of the most photographed moments of the day.
How big it gets is up to you. Two dhol players and a walk to the door, a full Indian band baja, the groom on a decorated horse or in a carriage, a mobile DJ truck, or a tuk tuk for a fun arrival. We also check the venue's rules on music, routes and timings.
Where it works best
Step 1
A meeting point near the venue for the groom's family
Step 2
Dhol players or a band baja to lead the walk
Step 3
The groom on a horse, in a carriage or on the DJ truck
Step 4
Ten to twenty minutes of dancing to the venue doors
Step 5
A handover to the milni or welcome
Tips from our team
- 1
Check the venue's rules first
Some venues and temples limit music, horses or vehicles near the entrance. Tell us the venue and we check.
- 2
Keep the walk short
Ten to twenty minutes of dancing is plenty. Longer walks lose energy and eat into the timings for the ceremony.
- 3
Plan the arrival with your photographer
A clear spot for the horse or truck at the doors gives the best shots.
Frequently asked questions
How long should a baraat be?
Most baraats last 15 to 30 minutes from the meeting point to the venue. We plan timings around the ceremony start.
Can we have a baraat at a gurdwara or mandir?
Often, yes, outside and at an agreed distance. Each place of worship has its own rules, so we check with them before confirming.
Can the groom arrive on a horse?
Yes. Our partners supply decorated horses and carriages, as long as the venue allows them.
How much does a baraat line-up cost?
There is no fixed price. Every event is different. Prices depend on availability, your exact requirements, time on site and location, so we quote each booking individually. Send us your date, venue and guest numbers for free, no-obligation options.
Still have questions?
Tell us about your event and we'll come back with options.
