What is an engagement?

The roka, mangni or engagement is when families formally agree the match and celebrate together, often with a ring exchange, gifts and a meal. It can be a small gathering at home or a full party in a hall or restaurant.

We help with the parts that make it feel like an occasion: a DJ or live singer, a dhol entrance for the couple, decor and a backdrop for photos, and a photographer to capture it.

Where it works best

  • Step 1

Decor and a backdrop for the ring exchange

  • Step 2

A dhol entrance for the couple

  • Step 3

A DJ or live singer for the party

  • Step 4

A photographer and photo booth for family pictures

Tips from our team

  1. 1

    Build one great photo spot

A backdrop with flowers and lighting gives every family group the same lovely photo.

  2. 2

    Keep the entrance short

Two minutes of dhol for the couple's walk-in is all a smaller room needs.

  3. 3

    Plan the gifts and speeches

Give the DJ a simple running order so music stops at the right moments.

Frequently asked questions

Do venues around Weston-super-Mare have sound limits for dhol or music?

Many hotels and country houses set a sound limit or an end time, and some ask for unplugged dhol indoors. Tell us your venue when you enquire and we will check its rules before we confirm anything.

Which postcodes around Weston-super-Mare do you cover?

All of BS22, BS23, BS24, BS25, BS29 and BS49, including Kewstoke, Locking, West Wick, North Somerset, Hutton and Yatton, plus the rest of Somerset and nearby Highbridge, Wrington, Portishead and Cardiff.

Is an engagement party too small for entertainment?

Not at all. A DJ and a dhol entrance work well even for 50 guests, and we scale the line-up to the room.

Can you decorate a restaurant or home?

Yes. Our decor partners work in homes, restaurants and halls.

Still have questions?

Tell us about your event and we'll come back with options.
