What is a mehndi?

The mehndi is the pre-wedding celebration where the bride, and often the women of both families, have henna applied. It is usually the most colourful event of the wedding week, with bright decor, swings, floor seating, folk songs and dancing.

Punjabi, Pakistani, Gujarati and many other families celebrate it in their own way. We bring the entertainment and set-up that suit yours: dhol, folk singers, Bollywood or bhangra dancers, a DJ, a mehndi stage and decor.

Where it works best

  • Step 1

A mehndi stage or swing for the bride, with drapes and flowers

  • Step 2

Folk singers or a dholki session while the henna goes on

  • Step 3

A dhol entrance for the bride

  • Step 4

Family dance performances, then professional dancers to lift the floor

  • Step 5

A DJ for the rest of the night

Tips from our team

  1. 1

Give the henna space and light

Henna takes time. A well-lit corner away from the dance floor keeps the bride comfortable while the party carries on.

  2. 2

    Build the night around performances

Family dance routines are a highlight. Book a slot in the running order and give the DJ the tracks in advance.

  3. 3

    Pick a colour palette early

Mehndi decor usually goes bold: marigold, pinks and greens. Share your colours and we match the stage and drapes.

Frequently asked questions

Which venues near Telford can hold a large Asian wedding?

On our list, Telford International Centre (up to 1500 guests) can take 400 or more guests. Tell us your venue and numbers and we will plan mehndi entertainment around the space.

Do venues around Telford have sound limits for dhol or music?

Many hotels and country houses set a sound limit or an end time, and some ask for unplugged dhol indoors. Tell us your venue when you enquire and we will check its rules before we confirm anything.

Which postcodes around Telford do you cover?

All of TF1, TF2, TF3, TF4, TF5, TF6, TF7, TF8, TF10, TF11, TF12 and WV99, including Newport, Edgmond, Lilleshall, Tibberton, Shifnal and Sheriffhales, plus the rest of Shropshire and nearby Albrighton, Much Wenlock, Bridgnorth and Market Drayton.

What entertainment works best at a mehndi?

Dhol, folk singers or a dholki session, dancers and a DJ are the classic mix. Smaller mehndis often keep it to folk songs and a DJ, larger ones add a dhol entrance and professional dancers.

Can you supply a mehndi stage and decor?

Yes. We supply wedding stages, swings and decor through our partners. Send us your venue and colours for options.

Still have questions?

Tell us about your event and we'll come back with options.
